Marketing Cloud is a Marketers tool.
Being a business owner you must have heard about these two terms: Sales and Marketing. So, what is the difference between Sales and Marketing.
Sales: Understanding the needs of the customer, reaches out to customers about the product and make them buy the product. Convert lead into customers,
Marketing: Letting the customer know about the product, nudge customer toward a product. Generate leads for the sales team.
The Marketing Cloud edition your company purchases dictates the type of tenant you’re working with. A tenant represents your top-level Enterprise account and its business units, your Core account, your top-level Agency account, or your Client account, depending on your tenant type.
Basic term to understand here is tenant. In real life, tenant is someone who pays money (rent) to the owner of a room, flat, building or piece of land so that he/she can live in it or use it. But, why does SFMC use this term? Marketer is purchasing the account and account will be termed as a tenant and there are different variations/types of the Tenants available.
Officially, tenant is a top-level enterprise account purchased by the company or organization along with multiple Business Units.
Business unit is used to categorize contents/functionalities based on factors like region, markets, organizational hierarchy, or any particular setup. It help organize and control access to the information with various marketing and IT teams. Information content can be in the form of multiple artifacts, templates, and subscriber data and settings. (More details coming soon).Few more terms to keep in mind to understand tenants are
Account name: This is the initial name set at the time of account provisioning and is usually the company name.
MID: This is a unique identification number assigned to each Business Unit. Your account will have multiple MIDs representing each Business Unit. This is also short for Marketing Cloud Member ID. These are the digits next to your business unit names in an Enterprise Account when you hover over the business unit selection from the drop down.
Tenant types
Enterprise 2.0: A tenant is the top-level account and all associated business units.
Enterprise: A tenant is the top-level account and all associated On-Your-Behalf or Lock & Publish business units.
Core: A tenant is the single account.
Agency: Each top-level account and each associated client account is a separate tenant.
Enterprise 2.0
This is the advanced Tenant type available in Marketing Cloud till date(Jan, 2024).
This type consists of Main account and its child accounts. Main account is considered as Enterprise. It includes multiple child accounts. Each part(Enterprise, Child Accounts) has Account & MID. Account Name and MID are unique values for each part. There is no limitation of child account under Parent(Enterprise) Account. But one child can have only one parent Account. So, from Parent to child we have one to many relationship and from child to Parent we have one to one relationship. One child can have only one parent and One Parent can have many child accounts.
